It seems that the American Electric automobile giant Tesla sees India as positively to expand its Electric vehicle segment to the Indian roads. Tesla is planning to make a bagging entry in the Indian automobile sector with its Model 3 sedan sometime in 2021. The Tesla Model 3 made its debut in 2016 is also known as the most affordable electric vehicle in the world. It is a known car that the Tesla Model 3 will be a CBU if and when launched in India hence resulting in a major price hike, So we can expect the initial price of the Tesla Model 3 to range between Rs 40-50 lakhs.
Great Wall Motors
Yet another Chinese brand, Great Wall Motors has set its eye on the Indian domestic car market. Just so you know Great wall motors is the biggest SUV and pick-up manufacturers on their home turf. The company’s domestic entry was confirmed when they showed up at the recently held Auto Expo 2020. It is expected that the brand will arrive in the country by 2021-22. The company is selling SUVs under the Haval nameplate. The company has also hired Kaushik Ganguly from Maruti Suzuki to lead its India foray. The Great Wall has also conducted multiple studies before finalizing on its decision to enter India.
Groupe PSA, the French automaker has partnered with our CK Birla Group to develop and sell products in India. The Groupe has officially announced that it will introduce the Citroen brand in the country in 2021. The French carmaker will be seen on Indian roads with the Citroen C5 Aircross SUV which will be a CBU unit priced around 30 lakhs and will rival the likes of the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza in the compact SUV segment. PSA Groupe plans to manufacture vehicles and powertrains in the State of Tamil Nadu and to bring state-of-the-art technology for an eco-friendly new product range.
Yet another Chinese company planning to enter the Indian market. FAW Haima Automobile Co.Ltd., the Chinese automotive manufacturer, has announced its plan to enter in the Indian automobile market. For its Indian operations, the company will collaborate with Bird Automotive, which is also an authorized partner for BMW and Mini. We can expect the brand to enter India sometime within the next 2-3 years.
The last entry in new car brands in India to launch by 2021 is Chery. which will go hand in hand with one of India’s biggest homegrown automobile manufacturer which will help the company for a smooth entry in the highly competitive Indian auto markets. Chery entered into 50:50 joint venture with Tata-owned JLR back in 2012 called the Chery JLR Company producing Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles in China. Tata’s new upcoming blackbird SUV could be based on the Chery Tiggo 5X SUV and could use the Tiggo’s platform and engine technology for the SUV.
